based in Finland Verge Motorcycles is gearing up to start production of one of the most unique electric motorcycles ever to hit the market. The TS, as it is called, has a strikingly unique feature: a hubless rear wheel.
In an interesting video from the excellent Fully charged Showwhich you can check out above, you can get an overview of how the TS performs – and most importantly how Verge has managed to pack the ‘heart’ of the motorcycle into one wheel.

The hubless setup in the TS is both simple and complex. The electric motor is located in the rear tire. The central part of the system is supported by the swingarm and the outer part rotates like on tracks.
The rim also features electromagnets that, when powered by the motor, repel each other, causing the outer part of the rim to rotate and propelling the bike forward.
And while it’s unusual to see a wheel with a hole in the center, this design choice serves two purposes: it can improve cooling and reduce bulk weight.
In addition, the lack of a chain, belt or gearbox makes the TS extremely efficient, according to the company – the engine can deliver a commendable power of 107 hp and an insane torque of 1,000 Nm.
You can’t find another two-wheeled machine that comes even half as close to this figure. I mean, it’s only comparable to hypercars like Bugatti’s, or the Rimac Nevera when you think of an EV.

As for the other specifications of the TS, it can reach a top speed of 180 km/h and a range of 300 or 200 km in the city and on the highway, respectively.
As you can imagine, the bike will not come cheap. It costs $23,681, but that’s not really unreasonable for the first motorcycle of its kind. Production will start this year, so hopefully we won’t have to wait too long to get our hands on it.
