coherencea data management provider, today announced the general availability of: Consistency FortKnox — a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution for data isolation and recovery. This adds to the company’s data management-as-a-Service (DMaaS) portfolio that runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Cohesity FortKnox complements the Threat Defense data security architecture.
Malicious cyber activity has exploded in recent years. This puts all organisations, especially those in NATO countries, at risk from politically motivated cyber attacks. The advanced malware deployed in the war in Ukraine is an example of this. CIOs and CISOs around the world face the ever-increasing threat of a cyberattack such as ransomware, which can shut down an organization’s commercial activities and compromise data integrity.
Data security in 3, 2, 1…
As a result, it is critical for companies to strengthen their cyber resilience and protect sensitive data against cyber threats. Cohesity offers a modern take on the 3-2-1 data protection rule, which states that companies must keep three copies of their data in two locations, one of which must be isolated.
Cohesity DataProtect enables customers to quickly recover from ransomware attacks using operational copies. The companies SiteContinuity offering provides the ability to replicate data between two locations and perform failover/failback. With the new FortKnox, Cohesity now has the capacity to build a cloud-based isolated duplicate of an organization’s data.
According to Adrian De Luca, director of solution architecture, global strategic partner development at AWS, enterprises place a high priority on data security, but the complexity and prevalence of cybersecurity attacks makes data protection not only more critical, but also more challenging.
“With Cohesity FortKnox, customers can leverage the scalability, security and accessibility of AWS with Cohesity’s next-gen data management for a solution that can help protect their data from ransomware and other cybersecurity threats,” said De Luca.
Eliminate Mass Data Fragmentation
Cohesity founder, CEO Mohit Aron, founded Cohesity in 2013 to address bigger issues in the ever-changing world of data management. With more than 1,900 people worldwide, the company simplifies data management by making data protection, management, and value extraction easy across the data center, edge, and cloud.
Corporate data is being targeted by more sophisticated adversaries than ever before. In fact, according to Enterprise Strategy Group’s “The long road ahead to ransomware preparednessIn the survey, 79% of respondents had experienced a ransomware attack in the previous year, and 86% of those who paid the ransom did not get all their data back.
With FortKnox from Cohesity, organizations can easily create a third copy of their valuable and vulnerable backup data, isolate it in a virtual airgap, and recover it safely in the event of a disaster.
Through Cohesity’s Helios platform, it leverages AI-powered anomaly detection, which helps discover potential signs of emerging ransomware attacks, empowering administrators to take necessary steps to mitigate their spread and impact. In the event of a ransomware attack, FortKnox detects a clean copy of the data and restores it to where it wants to be — on-premises or in the cloud.
To counter the threat of ransomware and state sponsored attacks, CISA and the FBI recently made new recommendations strongly advising companies to offer physically isolated data. FortKnox keeps data safe through operational isolation achieved with separate Cohesity-managed keys (not accessible to a malicious administrator) and separate workflows for read and write operations. It uses strict access restrictions, such as detailed role-based access control, multi-factor authentication, and encryption during flight and at rest.
FortKnox also enables organizations to shift costs from CapEx to OpEx, allowing IT directors to spend more time on strategic initiatives rather than infrastructure maintenance and operations. Four of the top 10 Fortune 500 companies, five of the top 10 US banks and two of the top five global pharmaceutical companies use Cohesity today.
Cohesity introduced FortKnox as an early access preview at the end of 2021. Customers are excited about FortKnox’s capabilities and potential to help them protect their data and increase their cyber resilience, despite being new to the market.
“As cyber attacks become more frequent and devastating, Cohesity FortKnox is adding another layer of protection to our most critical data,” said Olivier Pouvesle, CTO, BRGM, early access customer.
